Tennessee Music Academy Recital

A little over a week ago I got the opportunity to take photos for a piano recital.

I was excited but also nervous for the following reasons:

  • I had never been paid to take photos for a live event

  • I don’t have a telephoto lens. All of these were shot with my 24-70 GM II* (love this lens).

  • I don’t have a flash and have never shot with flash. Wasn’t 100% sure what the lighting would be like indoors for this event.

Thankfully, it was a beautiful space with a lot of natural light, and I didn’t need a telephoto to get some great shots.

The one slight negative at the event - the very bright window light moved as the event went on until it was blindingly sitting on the main subject. This made editing the last several photos of the recital a little bit of a challenge, but I think I was able to work with it.

The guy who hired me and all the parents seem to really love the photos and, for me, that’s a win.
